ACUPUNCTURE |
Acupuncture involves pre-sterilized disposable needles used in specific acupuncture points located on meridians. Each meridian is associated with a particular physiological organ system. Like streams flowing along the body, the meridians traverse from the surface of the skin and connect to the depths of an organ system.
The Chinese have an ancient maxim: "when there is pain, there is no free flow... when there is free flow, there is no pain".
Like non-flowing water in a stream, Qi stagnation can lead to pain or organ disfunction. An acupuncture treatment can free the Qi that has become stuck. Likewise, where Qi is deficient, acupuncture can increase the flow of Qi. |

Actual acupuncture sessions may vary from 20 to 60 minutes, depending on the nature of the individual and treatment protocol. Clients are encouraged to wear loose cloothing. During an acupucture session, a client may feel some tingling, like an electrical current moving along the meridians. Generally, acupuncture does not cause bleeding, although on occasion, it may occur. Most people gain tranquility through acupuncture while some fall asleep during their session.
Number of Treatments
Since each person is unique, the number of treatments needed will vary. Among the determining factors are the following: |
- The nature of the complaint whether it is chronic or acute.
- The general state of health and well being of the patient.
- The frequency and type of TCM treatment administered may determine the likely outcome of therapy.
- The adherence of the patient to the instructions of the TCM practitioner can also influence the speed of recovery or otherwise.
Patient Safety
All acupuncture needles are single use, pre-sterilised, disposable needles. |
